Venice Review
Venice Review is a new guide to the incredible city of Venice (Venezia in Italian). Written exclusively in English, the aim of the site is to help visitors plan their itineraries and then find their way to the places they decide to visit by providing useful and practical information.
It's something that's said about many places but nowhere is it more appropriate to say that there's no place like Venice. The idea of building a city on water seems preposterous but the city's historical might was founded on shipping trade and the wealth that it brought has produced the marvel that visitors flock to see in modern times. Apart from the most famous sights such as Saint Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge or the Doge's Palace, this is a city with a wonderful surprise around every corner. You can easily get lost here but it's never a bad thing as you'll discover so much along the way. It's a great city for walking, so beautiful you'll forget about any tiredness but you can get another perspective by using the Vaporetti (water buses) to travel around the labyrinth of canals. |

The central part of Venice is split into six districts known as "Sestieri" with each one of San Marco, Cannaregio, Dorsoduro, San Polo, Santa Croce and Castello having its own unique character and hidden gems.
Aside from this there's the huge Venetian Lagoon with its numerous islands to discover such as Murano with its glass factories or Burano with its multi-coloured buildings where they make lace.
Whatever it is that you decide to do in Venice, I hope you find Venice Review to be a useful tool to help you plan your trip and that you're able to make the most out of your trip to this unique city.

Venice Highlights
Venice In - FocusSituated at the eastern end of Saint Mark's Square and next to the Doge's Palace, Saint Mark's Basilica (Basilica San Marco in Italian) is the most famous religious landmark in Venice and an obligatory stop as part of any itinerary around the city.
Construction of the cathedral was completed in 1192 during the height of Venice's golden age of commercial dominance and as such is often referred to as the Chiesa d'Oro (The Golden Church). These days it's one of the busiest attractions in Venice and you - |
- will first have to queue and go through a security check before you can enter. All bags and luggage must be left at a luggage deposit in the Ateneo San Basso church which is located on the adjacent Piazzetta dei Leoncini. It's also worth noting that photos within the cathedral are not permitted.
Once inside the cathedral you're struck by how dark the interior is but this is done deliberately in order to protect the riches within, including the incredible gold mosaics that adorn the ceilings and upper levels. One of the most popular areas of the cathedral is its outdoor terrace which affords one of the best views in the city, looking down on to the hustle and bustle of Saint Mark's Square.
